He went on to further his studies, working on characterization of mRNA splicing factors and generation of transgenic and knock-out mouse models, and received his PhD degree from Graduated Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Chang Gung University, Taiwan in 2005. He also received the PhD student thesis award of the Association of Anatomists of the Republic of China, scoring first place. During the postdoctoral training, he participated in generating conditional knockout mouse models to investigate the temporal and spatial-specific function of mRNA splicing factors in vivo, as well as in determining the relationship between mRNA splicing factors and apoptotic events. Besides, he also joined the cardiovascular research team in Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan, working on utilization of mesenchymal stem cell-based therapy in cardiovascular disease animal models.
